Buyer guide

How to evaluate a used golf cart.

Match the cart to the job

Start with passenger capacity, local road rules, terrain, range, storage, ride height, and whether you need a rear seat, golf bag rack, lighting, audio, delivery, or freight.

Inspect the major systems

  • Electric: battery chemistry, age, service records, charger compatibility, cable corrosion, pack voltage, and real-world range.
  • Gas: cold start, smoke, leaks, noise, service history, fuel system, and compression when warranted.
  • Chassis: frame corrosion or cracks, steering play, brakes, suspension, tire wear, alignment, and evidence of collision or flooding.
  • Body and accessories: lights, turn signals, horn, windshield, seats, roof, audio, lift kit, wiring, and charger.

Paperwork and test drive

Match the serial number to ownership records. For an LSV, verify the title, VIN, registration eligibility, required equipment, and local rules. Test acceleration, braking, steering, reverse, parking brake, and operation on a representative slope.

Compare total cost

Include batteries, tires, charger, repairs, taxes, registration, insurance, delivery, freight, and any immediate safety work—not only the asking price.
